  • The S-D-25 blood test measures the body’s vitamin D stores.

  • B-Hb Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that binds oxygen.

    Hemoglobin reference ranges vary depending on a person’s gender and age—including in children.

  • A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test that provides an overview of the cells and hemoglobin in the blood. It measures the number, size, and percentage of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

  • Potassium is one of the body’s main electrolytes. Blood potassium levels are measured, for example, to monitor the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance, acid-base balance, or diuretic therapy.

  • Sodium is an indicator of the body's fluid balance. Sodium levels are measured from a blood sample.

  • The S-Krea kidney function test is a blood test used to measure kidney function.

    Fasting is not required before the test, but it is recommended.

  • Glucose (fP-Gluk) indicates the fasting blood glucose level. Blood glucose is the same as blood sugar.

    This test requires fasting.

  • The HbA1c test reflects the body’s long-term blood sugar balance. It is not subject to the same short-term fluctuations as blood glucose (fp-Gluk).

  • Testosterone levels are measured using the S-Testo test, which determines the total testosterone level in the blood.

    However, due to daily fluctuations in testosterone levels, it is recommended that men have their S-Testo blood test taken in the morning between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

  • C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein produced by liver cells, the levels of which rise significantly in various types of inflammation and tissue damage.

  • The Cholesterol Panel, also known as the Lipid Panel, is a blood test that measures the levels of total cholesterol (Chol), HDL cholesterol (so-called "good" cholesterol), LDL cholesterol (so-called "bad" cholesterol), and triglycerides (Trigly) in the blood.

    This test does not require fasting before the blood draw.

  • Thyroid function testing

    S-T4-v (free thyroxine) and S-TSH (thyrotropin is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that stimulates the thyroid gland.)

    This sample should be collected between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Fasting is not required for this test.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laboratory Tests at the Pharmacy

  • You don't need a doctor's referral for lab tests at our pharmacy's Health Center.

  • Samples for laboratory testing are collected during the opening hours of our pharmacy’s Health Center, which is on Tuesdays.

    You can easily view the following available times in the appointment calendar.

  • A nurse at the health center will notify you of your test results as agreed, for example by phone. The nurse will also explain the results in more detail and provide any recommendations related to your results.

    The nurse also enters the results into the Kanta.fi service, where they can be viewed. Our nurse reports the results and updates OmaKanta according to Terveyspiste’s opening hours, which are on Tuesdays.

    • Once you have scheduled an appointment for a blood test in advance, you can let the pharmacy staff know when you arrive—for example, at the counter.

    • If you are visiting our Health Center for the first time, we will give you a preliminary information form to fill out for the nurse.

    • You can then wait in our pharmacy's comfortable lounge area, where our nurse will call you when it is your turn.

  • Our nurses at Terveyspiste are experienced professionals, so feel free to talk to them about any concerns you may have.

    • For topical pain relief, pharmacies also sell numbing patches or ointments without a prescription. We’ll show you how to use the product at the pharmacy.

  • At the pharmacy's Health Center, the minimum age for sample collection is 12 years.
